Ardbeg Dolce: Sicilian Seduction Meets Islay's Smoky Soul

Imagine a sun-drenched Sicilian beach, where the air hums with the scent of olive groves and ripe Marsala wine, suddenly colliding with the wild, peat-choked winds of Islay. This is the dramatic heart of Ardbeg Dolce, the star of Ardbeg Day 2026. Launching on 30th May amid the distillery's global festivities—born from the Fèis Ìle festival on Islay—this limited-edition whisky fuses Mediterranean glamour with the rugged spirit of Scotland's peatiest isle. It's La Dolce Vita reimagined: think Vespas, oversized sunglasses, and red-checkered tablecloths, all twisted through Ardbeg's signature smokiness.

Ardbeg, the legendary Islay distillery known for its intensely peated single malts, has long pushed boundaries. Past releases like the cult-favourite Ardbeg Corryvreckan drew from exotic wine casks, but Dolce takes a bold leap to Sicily. Matured in sweet Sicilian Marsala wine barrels alongside classic bourbon casks, it captures the island's sultry pace—evoking 1960s Fellini films where glamour meets grit. Marsala, a fortified wine from Sicily's coastal vineyards since the 18th century, brings plush fruit and nutty depth, tempering Ardbeg's trademark peat without dulling its edge. The result? An instant classic that Committee members are already hailing with five stars: "A joy from the first sip to the long and lingering last."

This isn't just a whisky; it's a sensory film reel. Picture misty Islay coves blending with Sicilian film reels, lobster creels clinking against olive branches. Ardbeg Dolce arrives in Australia from 1st May 2026, with global embassies and specialists stocking it from 26th May. Committee insiders get first dibs on 30th April. On Islay, expect red-carpet tastings, Dolce cocktails, live music, and games—sunshine not guaranteed, but the peaty premiere is. Local Australian events will follow, blending community cheers with Italian flair. Slàinte meets salut in a bottle that honours two islands' shared love of life.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Fragrant apricot, plump raisins, and orange marmalade lead, laced with zesty lemon rind, dried herbs, roasted nuts, smouldering applewood, and chewy peat oils.
  • Palate: Sweet Sicilian Marsala heat dances with dark chocolate, balancing bold Islay peat and subtle bourbon vanilla.
  • Finish: Long and lingering, with smoky echoes of nuts, fruit, and maritime brine.
