Maker's Mark was developed by Bill Samuels Snr in 1953. He created the bourbon using a proportion of winter wheat instead of rye to reduce the 'burn' experienced in many bourbons of the time. The result is a comparatively soft and gentle spirit which mellows as it matures.Since 2005, Maker's Mark has been owed by Fortune Brands, also responsible for Jim Beam.
