Previously set to open in June 2017, the new Macallan distillery worth over £100 million is expected to open to the public in summer 2018.
Almost 3 years ago, Macallan, home of the most expensive whisky in the world to date, set out to build new warehouses and filling store, complete with a visitor's centre on a budget of £100 million. In July 2017, the reported budget is reportedly £20 million upwards and Macallan hopes to open the distillery to the public in summer.
The new distillery is the brain child of Macallan creative director Ken Grier who mentioned that they would love to get the new distillery up and running at the moment. He added ‘We’re now in a situation where the distillery will be finished pretty much early to mid-September, and we’ll be commissioning it and running spirit in the latter part of the year, probably in November. We’re looking to be open to the public in the early summer of next year.’
The new distillery will be located within the estate of Easter Elchies House - the spiritual home of Macallan. It is set to give visitors the ultimate experience and let visitors in on some of Macallan secrets.
