Own One of Lagg's First Casks for £6000

26-02-2018 By Whizzky Staff Writer

The Isle of Arran Distillers is selling 700 of their first casks from their soon-to-be-opened Lagg distillery for £6000 per cask.

The distillery plans on distilling its first spirit in the fourth quarter of 2018. This spirit will be put in America oak ex-bourbon barrels and 700 of these are up for grabs to private members. The peated spirit will be matured for a minimum 10 years after which members can elect to bottle it or leave it for further maturation.

After 10 years, the cask is expected to yield 280 70cl bottles. Isle of Arran master distiller James MacTaggart said to Scotch Whisky "To own one of the first casks from a distillery is a rare opportunity indeed". Buying maturing whisky in casks is an alternative method of investing in whisky instead of by bottle.Groundbreaking ceremony at

Owners of these casks will also get membership to the Lagg Cask Society which offers exclusive-member-only perks. Perhaps the most exciting perk is that each member of the society will receive their own 70cl bottle from Cask No.1 bottled at 46% abv after maturation of 10 years in Sherry butt. They will also have their names enshrined on the Wall of Fame at the new distillery.

Work on the new distillery began in February 2017 on the southern side of the Isle of Arran. The Lagg single malt will be heavily-peated in a style reminiscent of the original Arran whiskies, different from the whisky produced in Lochranza.
