Diageo has announced the 8th of February 2018 as International Scotch Day to celebrate the world’s favourite whisky, Scotch.
International Scotch Day was launched in 2017 to celebrate Scotch across the world. The 8th of February was selected as it is the birthday of Alexander Walker, son of John Walker. Alexander is responsible for taking his father’s whisky to the world.
Global Brand Marketing Director at Diageo, Ronan Beirne, said “Last year we launched International Scotch Day and its huge success proved what we at Diageo already knew – the world loves Scotch. This year is going to be even bigger, with celebrations taking place globally.”
Inside Diageo's Archive
The most exciting news is that Diageo will open their archive in Menstrie for free to the first 100 people to apply. Diageo’s archive features more than 5000 bottles of whisky dating back to its earliest days. The archive is off-limits to visitors but will be open to celebrate the #LoveScotch movement.
The drinks giant which produces a large number of Scotch will also open its distilleries to visitors for free. From the 8th to the 11th of February, Scotch lovers can visit distilleries such as Lagavulin, Dalwhinnie and Talisker free of charge.
Scotch is undoubtedly the world's favourite whisky. The Scotch Whisky Association reports that Scotch single malt exports, in 2017, broke the £1 billion billion mark for the first time.
